Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd child of the family. Her father, a carnival barker, passed away as a young little girl. This forced her mother to help support her family through work as a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She attended school in Boston. She quit the institution she was in after only two years in pursuit of acting as a profession. The route she took was not without obstacles. While in New York, her first task was to pose stills in crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she longed to do was abyssal. While in New York, she worked at a bar, as a check-in girl before quitting after a few months and moving to Boston. It was there that she made a buck as an usherette by during the day and then at night performed with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first job as an actor. She received a master's diploma in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
